New ARPA-H Project

한국형 ARPA-H(Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health)는 국가적 난제를 해결하고 의료·건강 분야의 혁신을 목표로 하는 도전형 R&D 사업이다.

Team of profs. Rae Woong Park and Chungsoo Kim selected for new project in Korean ARPA-H Project.

The Korean ARPA-H (Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health) is a high-risk, high-reward R&D program designed to tackle pressing national challenges and drive innovation in healthcare and public health.

For this project, the Hanyang University serves as the lead R&D institution, with joint participation from the Ajou University and Higen Healthcare. The Department of Medical Informatics at Ajou University will receive research funding over approximately five years, from August 2026 to December 2030.

Titled “Development of an Adaptive Regional Essential Care Stroke Platform Based on Agentic AI Orchestration,” the project aims to build a platform that applies multiple AI systems across the entire acute stroke care pathway, minimizing gaps in resources and care delivery at regional healthcare sites while improving treatment efficiency.

The research team’s goal is to support faster, more efficient care for acute stroke patients by deploying AI throughout the care continuum — from 119 emergency transport and severity assessment to interhospital transfer and admission, medical resource management, treatment planning, quality-of-care assessment, and administrative workflows. The team also plans to build the Agentic AI platform in a way that can be extended to other diseases in the future.

Within this project, the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Ajou University is responsible for healthcare data standardization and the development of an executable ontology for the safe deployment of AI. By systematically defining AI behaviors, capabilities, and prohibited actions, the team will establish the foundation for AI to be used safely in real clinical settings.
